Start with exact minutes
A shift with 478 net minutes is 7 hours 58 minutes. Rounded to the nearest quarter-hour it becomes 480 minutes, or 8 hours: a 2-minute increase.
Where rounding happens matters
Our optional timecard setting rounds each net shift after unpaid breaks. It does not round every clock-in and clock-out punch, and it does not round only the final weekly total. Those approaches can produce different answers.
With a 15-minute interval, 7 hours 7 minutes rounds to 7 hours, and 7 hours 8 minutes rounds to 7 hours 15 minutes. Exact half increments round upward.
Use the correct rule
Rounding is disabled by default. If enabled, both the exact result and rounding difference stay visible. Choosing an interval does not establish that its use is permitted for your employment or payroll situation.
